Anton Baev

HELIOPOLIS

Having a tedious time the sandals seller
Is standing alone in the shadow by his street stall.
Two fauns are rolling the bloody head of the Sun
along the square, in silence.

Taken off its chiton, carried up above the tower
Keeping its eyes closed, the afternoon is wasting its time.
Neither hetaera nor a feeble-minded one

Is coming from the outskirts.

A way passes by not far from here.
But one can see no travelers…
What has happened?

The most long-lasting victory is that of the dead.
The City of the Sun gets cool slowly.
