Alan Catlin

THOSE OF US WHO

lifted stones
reside now beneath
the walls we made
to separate us

one from the other.
What seems immovable
is just an illusion
of dead weight

We who moved them
know better

that the stones
are moving so fast
they seem to be
standing still

and that they will
float if we let them
like the clouds
they long to be

Alan Catlin has published dozens of chapbooks and books of poetry and prose.  Among the more recent books, “Near Death in the Afternoon on Becker Street” and “Self-Portrait of the Artist Afraid of His Self-Portrait” both from March Street Press.
