THREE PROSE POEMS FROM CHILE
The sea

The sea, when you work the sea, is nothing to write about. Like trying to write about sex in the middle of having sex. When it’s over where are you? The sea lions, they’d rather have it. The fishermen say we got work to do and it’s not on paper. Just the smell of fish stirs everyone inside your blood. Wind off the desert is thick with salt. It tastes like mango and the entrails of the kid yesterday who drowned.
