In my next life

I will travel extensively

watch from the sidelines

married couples

and children arguing,

I will be free

to smell the grass

my toes caressing

its silkiness.

I will sit at the shore’s end

and watch endless sunsets

while wondering what to do

the next day

and the day after-

read a new book,

go see a play,

sketch a new idea,

write a new poem?

maybe I will learn to play an instrument

or pick up another foreign language to learn,

who knows?

Or go to a concert

and listen to music all night

embracing the sounds

until am entrapped

in their fluidity?

will be more

touching

feeling

breathing

contentment

patience

kindness

but wait…

that was

my first life.
