CUCUMBERS

They must be stripped of their dark leathery surcoats and quartered, like
Green girls refulgently splayed on de Sade’s cool bed.

Lightly salted, a quarter should be consumed in three bites

With a glass of vodka a plateful recalls a summer day ‘tossing clouds
Into the pond’ of Boris Pasternak.

Not too full of seeds.
