GLORIES, STRUNG LIKE BEADS

A Special Edition

A special edition of Long Island Quarterly saluting the poets and pioneers from our pages who have gone before us

A special edition of Long Island Quarterly, recognizing — in our 33rd year of publication — poets who have appeared on our pages and gone before us; who have served as pioneers and pathfinders, trailblazers and are landmarks along the way in our poetic journey as Long Island writers. We salute them each, they are in our eyes like Walt Whitman’s ‘glories, strung like beads’ in the poetic firmament, for us to continue to look upon and to reference — looming large in our smallest sights and hearings; serving as our similitudes from the past and our guides to the future.

I want to thank my co-editors at Long Island Quarterly over the years – Patti Tana, and by succession RB Weber, Mankh, Ed Luhrs – for their hard work and talent since 1990, and their leadership in the process of selecting poets for the publication in our pages; and to all our readers and contributors who have made LIQ their home.
