HISTORY OFFERS NOTHING FOR PAIN/NOTHING BUT PAIN

Look back
The suffering
of anyone’s people
like hard chunks
of something
that won’t go down

Like shame
In case you
might have
changed things

Like nausea
slowly rising
and there’s
no hope

Never was—
that’s the killing point
No point at all
just an unfolding
a shared guilt

a retelling
a retelling
a retelling
