Paul Koniecki

MAYBE ALL SOULS ARE CATCH AND RELEASE

hovering
features prominently
in my dreams
near the surface

and frictionless
like the last seat on
one of those high
speed magnet trains

far-off high and scary
some helium balloons
are chrome
i am not a helium balloon

forgoing the coating
on mirrors
and dolphins tongues
i want to grow up

to be a ghost
casting fishing line
over water
like a friendly spider

to help other ghosts
fog is the last wish
of lakes and wind
mystic and sterling-gray

voluminous and true
like shivering and tears
maybe all souls
remember

having been captured
in the wild
the hook
the net

two grievous hands
the words held fast
a waveless shore
the everlasting pain
