George W Colkitto

THIS TRAIN DON’T CARRY NO PASSENGERS

a thin wind drives me to shelter

sun-warmed the summerhouse welcomes

me to switch off house-bound cares

to let bird song and daydreams rise

out and up to a pale blue sky

where white breath clouds go east

to Istanbul and Samarkand

I drift half sleep, half wanting

to follow on their flight

but I am contented

without purpose

or need
