Scout Mercer

SPATE

standing under

the gutter spout

in the downpour

pretending it was

a waterfall –

anything more exotic

than dandelions

chickens running

feathers flattened slick

mud sucking

feet out of shoes

shirts on a clothesline

rewashed

despite the shrieks

frantic hands crumple cotton

face upturned to catch

the deluge

Absolution
